Our Trustees & Committee

  • Dave Glenton - Trustee & Chair

Dave grew up in Manchester and lived in Yorkshire and Warwickshire before moving to Ashburton with his wife Joc in 2008.

In 2019 he was somehow talked in accepting the role of Chair of the Pool where he has the pleasure of coordinating our brilliant team of trustees, staff, and volunteers.

By day he is a Lead Engineer for local technology company Amulet Hotkey developing embedded hardware and software for remote working technology.

When not juggling the whims of his four children, he can be found cycling around the lanes of Dartmoor, sailing his Drascombe Longboat or canoeing around the beautiful Devon coastline. He also helps train SDCC's 10-Tors teams.

  • Chris Waugh - Trustee & Treasurer

Chris joined the trustees as treasurer in December 2019, he is responsible for day to day financial operations, monitoring & reporting the pool’s financial health, financial governance, the annual report for the November public meeting, and statutory returns to the Charity Commission.

He was born in Liverpool, was brought up in London, and spent many years in South Devon, including Ashburton, while studying in Plymouth. After living in London & on the Essex Coast, he moved back to Ashburton, to where he always knew he would return, in 2019.

  • Sarah Perry - Trustee

Sarah has been a trustee since 2017 and is currently the secretary. She helps with planning, timetabling, events and private hire as well as some of the behind-the-scenes admin.

Sarah would like to encourage other people to get involved and join the committee, saying “it’s a really nice team and a great way to contribute to the community. I love that the town is so supportive and am proud that we continue to have a pool in Ashburton despite Teignbridge stopping their funding.

  • Jez Ralph - Trustee

Jez, a keen swimmer, got involved in the pool as an antidote to office work when he moved to Ashburton. After a year or so volunteering, Jez is now a Trustee for the pool, responsible for pool plant and water quality. This role mainly involves hiding in the plant-room, obsessing over the air-source heat pumps and the cleanliness of the water.

  • Anthony Arnold - Trustee

Since moving to Ashburton, Anthony and his family enjoy regular visits to Ashburton Swimming Pool.

Anthony originally became a committee member in 2017, before becoming a Trustee in 2020, wishing to support the charity in maintaining and evolving such a valuable community resource. Anthony is driven to ensure that many generations to come have the chance to experience and enjoy the pool too.

  • Anna Hattersley - Trustee

Anna is a keen swimmer who has been involved with the pool since 2014 when Teignbridge announced they would close it.

She was initially the Chair and hugely involved with the setting up and running of the charity alongside a great team of volunteers.

She is still a trustee, although less actively involved now, and loves how volunteers and lifeguards bring new knowledge, enthusiasm and skills to the pool each season to keep people swimming in the heart of Ashburton.

  • Laura Ruiz - Committee

Laura started volunteering in 2021 and is responsible for rallying together volunteers to help get the site ready for the season.

She also fixes things herself of blags the help of our wonderful local experts who come to our aid!

If you’d like to help get the pool ready please contact Laura below.

  • Charlotte Glazier - Committee

As a volunteer, Charlotte joined the committee in 2021 and looks after all things marketing, such as the website, social media, google & trip advisor reviews. She has lived on the edge of Ashburton for over 13 years and is mother to two young adults and 3 dogs! Having sat on the side of the pool whilst her children were young Charlotte felt it was time to be on the other side of the fence and help out. If you’ve got any marketing related ideas or would like to help out please send Charlotte a message.

  • Jane Lewis - Committee

Jane is responsible for recruiting and organising the volunteers to operate the beautiful pool cafe.

Having lived in Ashburton all my life, she learnt to swim in this pool, which was not heated at the time nor were there any refreshments available.

As children they were bought a pool season ticket and spent their summer months, packed off with a picnic!

  • Finn Clark - Committee

A keen swimmer herself, Finn keeps tabs on the swimming pool emails, answering general queries or forwarding them on the team’s various experts to deal with!

  • Sharon Gilmour

Sharon has been part of the Ashburton community since 2008 and has spent most summers in our beautiful pool. To help the pool survive, Sharon keeps the books and helps out where she can, either helping preparing the pool for the season or occasional cafe stints or weeding.
